Editing and re-posting a book without additional cost

Blurb needs to provide a means for editing and revising an existing book as it is really not a good practice to require an author to have to repurchase another hard copy book upon revisions. I really do not want to repurchase the book; I just want to have it made available to others on the web site. There should be a way of doing this without having to repurchase it.  Blurb has made the ebook editable, why not do the same with the hard copy format?

There needs to be a community effort to support this request if it is to become an issue that Blurb is willing to address.  I suspect most of the authors are not inclined to purchase bulk quantities of their books and chose to sell them on a request basis.  It is therefore not cost effective to have to repurchase a book each time a revised edition is made.
Cordially,

Absolutely agree! It is absolutely ridiculous to have to create a completely new book because you need to change one sentence or add one.

It can be worse than a sentence - it can be one dash that you forgot to remove at the end of a line.  Yes, it really happened to me.  Amazon's CreateSpace sends you a free copy to proofread.  Now that's customer service!  If it weren't for the fact that I don't like designing on Word and don't want Amazon 'owning' the rights to my book through their 'free' ISBNs, I would have gone with CreateSpace!

Lulu also allows corrections and reloads with no penalty. I just discovered this morning something that I can add to one page in my just uploaded (but not yet public) book. I'd really like to add it for free, although I would probably buy the revised book just the same for historical reasons.

I just published my first book and want to make 1 change. I can't imagine there is no way to make that change without having to purchace it all over again. This is totally unprofessional and is really bad customer service if it's true.

In traditional publishing, first editions are often printed in small quantities to make it possible for authors to revise the text if necessary. Ninety-nine per cent of books contain at least editorial mistakes, so it would be important for quality control to have the possibility of making some changes. We can discuss in what percentage or find some other criterion to limit the revisions. Daniela Gobetti

Yes, I also agree. If I republish my book. The previous web address for my book I have emailed and posted online to my friends, is no longer valid, and my friends wonder walks going on. I have paid blurb a lot of money because I have to repurchase books because I wanted to change a line or two. The previous books just set in my closed because I couldn't cancel in enough time.

I absolutely agree. One word wrong in my first book... Don't want to pay for a new volume just for one letter out of place. No option to edit further. Unethical. Please fix this or I will find another platform.

This is the first time I have published a book with Blurb...and it will be the last if I am unable to make minor amendments without having to purchase another copy. Blurb encourages designers to view the first book as a 'proof' copy which is fine. However, if I am then unable to replace the original copy with the revised copy - which technically is easy enough to do without incurring aditional costs - then I will look for another platform to produce future issues. It sems to me that something as simple as this would encourage designers and clients to purchase additional copies - and to recommend Blurb as a reputable company whose central ethos is based on a genuine concern for their clients.

I uploaded for the first time my book but in any place of help I could find that, if I did not mark the covers that I wanted to publish my book won't be available in other covers. Then I must upload it again and purchase a new book to be able to present other covers?. Impossible, ridiculous.

I completely agree.  I checked and rechecked my book so many times and finally thought it was exact so published.  However, others have requested page numbers.  And two mistakes were found.  I should be able to edit without completing repaying.

Posting to bump..

I've been skirting the POD world for years. I uploaded two versions of one book.. I'd love to edit just the contents and re- up but I have a simpler edit I want to make:

Paper Stock!

When I posted my book years ago, the paper stock available was super expensive. So, the book price was cost- prohibitive.. seriously- I was getting quotes from foreign printers that would make you blush. But, being a seasonal worker, I had a financial rollercoaster that I would go through and thus never could manage to get the meagre cash together to print.

Now, Blurb has offered lower quality paper stocks that greatly reduce the cost of printing.

All I want to do is edit the parameters of my book such that it is More Affordable to purchase in it's current state. I can't. I'm posting this here but I will, also, be making note to Blurb on this.

Furthermore, over the 2 years+ that this thread has been alive, not ONE blurb employee has stopped by to offer their loonie's worth of input? REALLY?!?! This thread has been going for AGES and not ONE employee has crossed this off their tasker?!?!

Isnt it the job of the author to make sure that the book is ready for publishing before ordering a copy,  have made two books recently ordered them both and going through the two I noticed errors so I re edited the book uploaded them to Blurb again ready for when I decide to order another.
