Strange dots around pictures and words

Hi,

I recently ordered a small square photobook, I created each page on Photoshop, then exported each page as a jpg file and then created the book on Booksmart. I have pages with black words on white background and pages with pictures with white borders around them. The printed pages have strange dots on the white background around the words and pictures that doesn't show on the preview. Do you know what created those dots? Is it the printing method or the export options I used on Photoshop? Can anyone help me figure it out what went wrong to correct it on my next book?

Yes! Something like that, let me see if I can upload a picture. The dots are more noticeable in person than in the pictures attached.

ah, I see! It is something called jpg artifact. it has to do with the fact that you uploaded your entire page as a picture, instead of creating the page in a design program like InDesign or blurbs own Booksmart. Jpg pictures are what they call "lossy", meaning that when you convert a picture to jpg, some information of the picture is lost, which in some cases creates the small dots you see. (Extra visible in the white space)

My advice would be to use software that is made for designing pages, instead of software made for editing pictures, and to not save a page as a picture. Good luck!

Thanks for the replay! I'll recreate my book on the software that you recommend.
