You are not alone. Five days waiting for support with no answer. How can you create a new, improved software without the basic function of a table of contents. I am 24 hours away from a different printer.
How do I create a Table of Contents in Bookwright
I think I have lost my mind... but I can't find a Table of Contents template or function anywhere in BookWright. It's the last thing I need to do besides adding an index to the back. Any suggestions? The only help I see is BookSmart, which I didn't use this time because I thought it was the outdated version. Thanks!

Thank you for letting me know I'm not crazy. I am very surprised there isn't a table of contents function!
After multiple days trying to insert a TOC and running into low resolution errors, and receiving NO explanation why the function is not available I created one using tabs and spaces. I left justified, typed the chapter title, tabbed five times, then entered page number 1 by hitting the space bar twice and then number 1. For two digit pages enter one space and two numbers. For three digit, enter the numbers. This process aligns the right side of your TOC whether the page # is a 1,2,or 3 digit number. After doing so, I center justified the TOC and it aligned surprisingly well. Yeh, it felt like working on a typewriter, but it is done. I have 71 chapters, but it only took about 20 minutes...
Despite being done I can't shake the frustration of the absence of this very basic feature. I lost hours and hours attempting suggested work a rounds. The function was in Booksmart but not addressed in Bookwright. Improved software?

I would like to self-publish my book, but I am unsure as to where to begin. My understanding is that the programs are free and I do not have the means to have someone else do it, I just want to be sure before I begin.
The only way I've been able to import an RTF-formatted TOC into BookWright is not very satisfactory. Instead of importing with the leading dots separating the title from the page number, there's a single (or sometimes double) dot followed by the page number.
In order to get my book printed by deadline I made minor edits to eliminate the dots and showed the page number immediately after the title. Not nearly as professional as I'd prefer, but I was under deadline, so that's what I used.
I opened a support ticket requesting an enhancement for a more professional-looking TOC with leading dots or dashes, similar to what's available in MS Word or other high-end word processing tools.
The Customer Support rep agreed to pass on my suggestion, but also suggested that I add my suggestion to the community forum where other Blurb users can support the request (or even suggest a better solution). Apparently, only the most popular ideas can get further consideration for enhancements.
I agree. A table of contents function seems a must.
