Thank you, thank you! The latest update to BookWright is a huge step forward! Borders for images, and shapes that can be drawn to create text borders! Been waiting for this a long time. I knew you'd do it.
BookWright Feature Requests
From time to time, we get feature requests from our customers for our downloadable tool, BookWright. While we cannot promise that every feature request will be added to this book-making tool, we want to hear what features you're looking for.

1. Could the file size could be shown as the book is compiled, avoiding lengthy re-editing once you find you have gone over the limit (it is in the Blurb folder but it would be helpful to be reminded)?
2. Vertical and horizontal distribution of text and picture boxes
3. Mirror-image option when saving a layout so a left page can be reflected in a right page
4. Ability to create more ruler guides
Many Blurb users are used to PowerPoint and Keynote and would value similar controls.
The ability to paste plain text in and let it use the format used in that frame.
One thing I really miss the auto save feature as implemented in Booksmart. Since changing from Booksmart to Bookwright I really miss this feature.
I'd LOVE the ability to drop images into the book in progress and wrap text around them. That way, we can put all the text out first, and add images where they're most impactful, or even move them and add flexibility to projects.
Since moving from Booksmart to Bookwright I miss:
the preview panel which enabled you to see all pages at once and jump from page to page
the date of taking photo showing with the thumbnails of pictures. This was really useful for the work I do
When I uploaded my first Bookwright project with standard paper I had to reload it to make a paper change, how mad is that?
If Booksmart had worked with Windows 10 I would have continued with it
Please can we have Bookwright that will operate within Linux
In BOOKWRIGHT, the EDIT menu should have a FIND function for alphanumeric text, as most word editors/processors have. This would enable authors to proof more effectively for text elements such as footnote designators, references to other page numbers or chapters etc., references to figure numbers, etc., since these elements may change after insertions and deletions of text or other elements of a document. At present, with no FIND function, such proofing must be done manually, by reading through, which is daunting and can lead to many errors, especially for large documents.
1. The ability to lock guidelines would be very helpful. It's far too easy to pick up a guideline instead of a border when fine tuning placements.
2. Magnetic guidelines would also be very useful.
I would love to be able to rotate photo boxes so they sit on an angle. I know you can rotate the picture within the box, but I want the container itself to rotate - less fiddly to get the effect I want!
It would seem a given that you would print the title of a hardcover book on the hardcover itself, not just the dust jacket. I've just finished laying out my book and just learned this is not done. If you must make this an extra charge, do it but to leave it off the table is a deal breaker. I will go elsewhere. Sorry.
Title on hardcover would be nice, but if it is offered, and adds to the cost of the book, it should be optional for those who want it. I tend to think that the glossy covers are classy, but you could always choose ImageWrap as an alternative to having title printed on the plain book cover.
The recent update of Bookwright has led to the rather peculiar thing that, when I go to Preview on my Macbook Pro, I get a full page preview, but, when I do this on my Win10 PC, it opens with a smaller window without a FullScreen option, which means that I have to manually resize it each time. This wastes TONS of time, as I frequently switch back and forth to check on the layout. I contacted support about this but was told that there were now plans to introduce it. I do not understand why it works in the Mac option but not the PC (where it used to work before the update...).
Secondly, I am trying to use the Shapes tool in order to place text inside boxes with a border. This is great. I was going mad trying to find ways to do this. However, the shapes are very limited. What I need is a Rectangle shape. If you use the Square shape, all you can get is a square. All that is required is that the Square shape tool allows you to draw the shape out to the required size.
Boxes around text: 1. Place a photo layout box on the page, then use the BORDER functions in the photo layout box editing window to construct a border. 2. Place a text layout box within the photo box and add text.
The square tool does become a rectangle of any size you want. It's easy. Draw the shape on your page, click on its border, then use the size boxes to type in the exact dimensions of the rectangle. You can also drag the edges, but I find that typing in the dimensions gives you absolute control over size, as well as consistency. After you get the shape sized, drag it to where you want it on the page. Then you can choose your border style, color and width, and also your fill color. Placing a text box inside the shape is easy because you can draw it in, then size it to fit inside the rectangle by using the dimension boxes. The circle can also become an oval----just drag the edges, or type in a size. A text box inside a circle or oval works nicely too.
It would be useful to have text styles (eg caption, body, title) to support rapid change of font size etc. Attaching a style to a text box in a layout would speed things up too. Currently the default font always needs to be changed on every box on every page. Styles are available in Booksmart.
Just want to second the request for locking ruler guides. Can't tell you the number of times I've accidentally moved a ruler guide when I was trying to select the frame of a photo box that was aligned to a guide. Ideally, once you've set up your grid for the whole book, you could lock those "master guides", and then if needed, add custom page-specific local guides for unique layout variations. This seems to be a pretty standard approach for most layout programs, and would really help make BookWright a more production-oriented tool that supports precision work.
I would love to see a footnote function added. Until that, I cannot use Bookwright.
The ability to do a keyword search in my book
I think you need to have the option to change the opacity on objects and images. This is a primary design function, and it would streamline the process as well as add many more creative options for creators.
Hi, I just tried the software for the first time today.
Here's a feature that should hopefully be simple enough to implement (Like, I work in software too and this is something I'd let an intern handle :D)
When importing photos from Lightroom CC, the Blurb web importer currently forces me to manually click on every single image I want to import. I did not see an option to import a whole album, or a button that I can click to "select all images". So now for the smallest of the photobooks I'm planning to create I had to individually click on 130 pictures. That's not fun.
So please, add some UI enhancement to the import tool that allows to select multiple images at once and/or let me import the whole album at once.
