Blog to Book

Please bring this feature back!!! I am sick about not being able to use blurb to turn my family blog into a book, like I do every year.

Can you not do Blog to book anymore.  I am just sick.  Please have this feature available.  I also do my book from my blog each year.

I agree as well. I finished a book mid-way through last year and then got a new computer and haven't downloaded either bookwright or booksmart.  Was reading about the differences and then saw that you are disabling this feature.  This was the sole reason I used this software, and then also created blog books for my friends who have blogs as well.  I have 8 years of similar books and it will be such a waste of time to manually import all of the pictures on my blog into the book.  Please please bring this feature back!

Hi Beth - Blurb no longer supports blog slurping from our BookSmart tool. While we know some of our customers have enjoyed it, it has been increasingly difficult to maintain this function due to continually changing integration requirements. Therefore, we have made the decision to shut down blog slurping in order to focus on new tools and features.

While we no longer offer an automatic way to pull your blog content into a book, you can still create a physical copy of your blog by importing your original images and manually copying and pasting your text.

We will gladly forward your requests to our development teams in the hopes we can bring this feature back in our future.

I agree!  I have done this for several years and absolutely cherish the books I've made.  My blog is the way I organize my family's pictures.  I can deal with any formatting issues as long as you can make a way to continue slurping the content from my blog.  I can't imagine ever being able to create the book by copying and pasting and finding and re-importing pictures.  It would take WAY too long and would never get done!  I know SO many people who have used this feature and will be devastated to see it go.

I agree with everyone else. I was half way through making my book when we had to replace our computer. I noticed that the latest version of BookSmart was quite different from the version I had on our old computer but didn't realize until today that I can no longer Slurp my blog. I was already annoyed with the newer version of BookSmart and am now quite unhappy. I will finish the book I am working on by tediously searching through all of my pictures to find the exact pictures I used on my blog, but I will look for an alternative to Blurb after this book is finished. So disappointing.

Just found out that I can't use blurb to turn my blog into a book anymore and I am heartbroken.  Please bring this back.

Does anyone have recommendations of a new website to use?

So sorry about that - We are hoping to have this feature added back to our website in the future but do not have any exact dates or times just yet.

Thank you for your quick response...I really hope after reading all of the comments of the customers that used slurping that can figure out a way to make it work.  I love making my family books and love ordering them as keepsakes for my kids!!

Good luck!!

Yes, please bring this feature back!!  Agree with everything others have posted.  Please, please bring it back.  I am so sad and disappointed this feature is gone.  I've been making Blurb books from my blog since 2006, and it's the only way I can organize our family pictures.  There is no other company out there that can do this.  It will take forever to find and upload pictures.  I can format myself, I just need to slurp the content.

I agree! I have made my family blog into a book for the past 10 years. I love them all being the same great quality! This is a sad change! Please bring it back if you can!

No! No! No! This is terrible. I have used this method for years! Loved how I can organize everything on my blog and transfer it over quickly. Please bring it back!! Does anyone know of another company that does that so we could start using that?

I agree with everyone else.  I have used this feature since 2008 and can't imagine how much time it will take to manually upload all my posts and pictures from my blog. Please bring this feature back!

Over the last 10 years I had developoed a ridiculously complicated workflow all aimed at transferring my family blog into a photo book, which has become the much anticipated Christmas present for parents and inlaws.

The workflow involved exporting photos from Adobe Lightroom into a Wordpress gallery (using the LR/Blog plugin), creating a massive XML file containing a year's worth of posts and picture URLs using php code I've written myself. This XML file is then converted into blogger format through a web based conversion service and imported into blogger.com before it is pulled into BookSmart. This workflow has changed over the years mainly based on what blog format BookSmart happend to still support.

Every year I'm dreading the process and particularly this year was very painful as my aging php code responsible for wordpress gallery extraction needed some major overhaul due to deprecated mysql functions and other shenanigans. So I spent most of my last weekends fixing and trouble shooting my extraction methods, even writing my own wordpress to blogger converter, as the web service I had been using appeard to have vanished as well. After what felt like an eternity I finally managed to get everything uploaded into blogger, presumably the last stage before BookSmart. It hadn't occured to me to check whether or not BookSmart would still support this function, so imagine my surprise and frustration when I realised the whole function (the one that my workflow is built around) has been discontinued.

As someone else in this thread sai, I'm sick to my stomach and have to rethink my whole workflow. Following Blurb's rather cynical suggestion to import blog posts manually (which isn't very practical in my case as I've got 115 posts with ca. 1400 Photos to import) will take an awful lot of time which is particularly frustrating considering I've spent the last week's optimising the automation of this only to now have to do it manually anyway.

Adding insult to injury, my whole process had been aimed to meet the 29 November deadline for a 50% discount. If I don't manage to finish all the manual work by tomorrow, I'll be penalised not just with extra work, but also with twice the cost.

This is beyond frustrating.

Wow!  I'm shocked that you would remove this feature.  It is the only reason we use Blurb.  I have referred many other people to Blurb because of this feature as well.

I agree. Blog to book was the only reason I used Blurb. If anyone has found something else they like, please post here. I'll be looking now. Disappointing. I have years of similar books on our shelf for our family.

It looks like Blurb and BookWright has just (March 2017) come up with something similar to blog slurping like BookSmart had (and I LOVED). It's called "site import." I'm wondering if anyone else has tried it and if they are having success. I'm trying to upload just part of a 5 year blog (Blogger and blogspot) and all I can get it to bring over is one blog post at a time. "Site import" isn't really worth that to me... I could manually upload the pictures and copy and paste the text at that same speed almost. Has anyone had success with it bringing up the list of blog posts and letting you pick and choose like it says it is supposed to?

This is super sad that BLURB has removed the blog import option. Like many other comments it is the sole reason I use blurb and have recommended it to countless other friends. I print a yearly photobook from my blog since 2011 with most of them being at the max capacity of pages and have also done separate albums for wedding & engagement photos, & albums for grandparents. I downloaded BOOKWRIGHT to try that option. I was able to do the "site import" option which is very similar to slurping except for one huge bummer! When it imports your photos from the dates of the (in my situation 34 posts) selected it loads all your photos into one spot, UNORGANIZED! WHATTTTT! So there are 1,000 photos I'd have to skim through while also looking back at my blog posts to see which photos go to which post. That's impossible for a busy mom to do. PLEASE bring blog to book slurping! I love blurb and the quality of the books. I would be so bummed to have invested 7+ years of family photo albums for it to just end!
