Same thing here. Background images look bad in the preview on blurb.

FollowQuality of background image with 27% opacity
I am using lightroom 5 to create background image. But when I upload the book created in lightroom on to Blurb, the background image in blurb preview doesn't look like an image but a painted picture. Will the picture come out as a picture in final printed photo book or show as seen in the preview.

Any clarification on this.? Transparencies (or background layers affected by color and layer opacity via LR's background toolbox) appear pixelated, blown out, and resemble very bad Warhols..
Same thing! My background images look way overexposed. Will they print correctly?
Ok so I printed my book and the transparency overlays are indeed a bit unpredictable. In general they ARE more blown out. If you're using LR's book module for colored transparent overlays, you may want to try simply creating this affect in LR proper with split toning. However if you do need to use the book module's feature bc there is no workaround, then do compensate for some overexposure. My experience at least. Hope that helps..
Me too. Does anyone know if the images print as overexposed as they look in preview mode?
Solution: Don't use preview.
