What's the wholesale discount?

  • Updated

The wholesale discount is the compensation retailers will receive for selling your book.

When you submit your book to the Global Retail Network, you choose a suggested minimum list price. The list price includes your book’s base cost, which is the cost to produce the book, plus a profit of your choice, and the wholesale discount amount. (Note that the retailer has the right to sell your book at any price they choose, regardless of the suggested list price).

Changing your wholesale discount will impact how and where the book is sold. The higher the wholesale discount, the more attractive it is for retailers to list your book for sale. A higher wholesale discount also means a higher minimum list price. Some retailers will only accept books with a 55% wholesale discount, so selecting a 55% discount will ensure the broadest exposure.
