I want to make a book. Where do I start?

  • Updated

We have a variety of free tools you can use to make a book. Need help deciding which tool to use to create your book? Please consider these three questions when determining which book-making tool to use.

1. What type of book are you planning on making?

Are you making a photo book, a trade book, an ebook, or a magazine? Not all of Blurb’s tools make every book type Blurb has to offer, and this decision will help you choose the right tool to use. (BookWright, Blurb's free downloadable software, lets you create all of our available formats).

2. Are you already experienced with other design tools?

Save yourself time and focus on getting the book design exactly to your liking by using what you already know. Don’t get caught up trying to learn to use a design tool you aren't comfortable with.

Have you used BookWright in the past? Do you already work with Adobe InDesign or Lightroom for other projects? If you already have a book in PDF format, you can use our specifications calculator to fine-tune your PDF to any book size and then upload the PDF for printing.
