Bleed Area Warning in BookWright

  • Updated

During the preview and upload process, BookWright may give you a warning for the placement of text in either books or Wall Art.

Books

After clicking the Upload button, BookWright may give you a warning:

Text container placed in safe margins.

Underneath the page, you'll also see the following message:

Photo books and magazines: Text that is placed in the safe margin may be trimmed or lost on the edges. Keep your text out of the safe margin.

Trade books: You have placed a text container in the safe margin of this book. Due to the printing process for this book trim, it is possible that your book will be held up for review by the printers. Blurb recommends that you move the text container away from the safe margin to ensure a quick turnaround.

The bleed area of a book is the area that will be trimmed off in printing, so any text in this area will be lost in your final book.

To fix this issue, click Back to Project.

Adjust your content away from the red dotted trim line and completely out of the pink shaded area.

For more details including screenshots and examples, see our article on BookWright Trim Guides.

If you want your image to go all the way to the edge of the page, check out our article on using full bleed images in BookWright.

The safe margin is the area that will be trimmed or folded in production, so any text in this area will be lost in your final Wall Art print.

To fix this issue, click Back to Project.

Adjust your text away from the red dotted trim line for canvas and metal (acrylic doesn't have a red dotted line) and completely out of the pink shaded area.
