What do you do if your "current in works" books aren't showing up in Booksmart

This happened to me a couple of weeks back. I contacted Blurb Support by email which took 48 hours to get a response and the rep didn't read my question thoroughly thus giving me unhelpful information plus also tried several times to get someone on the 800 number. Several times after holding for 15 or 20 minutes the robot English lady came on and said basically no one can help you now, try back later. Click!  So frustrating!!!  Anyway, finally got Stephanie on the phone and she told me to open a Test Title book which I had already done per a previous blogpost from January 2013 and move my current books over to the new area which also created a new MY Documents folder.  This was fine but none of my 60 or so personally created photo templates from the last 20 books published could be accessed.  So either create new ones which I started to do and then realized it was a painstakingly slow process, so I quit.  My son is very computer literate but lives 3 hours away so with no new updated word from Blurb, I just sat and waited.  My son had a vested interest in this book as it was a photo compilation of his young son, so he wanted to help.  Well, once he arrived, it was fixed within 5 minutes.  All the support team needed to tell me was to go into the Change Library area of the new bookfile and change the setting back to the original My Documents Folder.  This is an ADVANCED USER function so was glad that my geek son felt comfortable doing this.  Then he moved all of my current in works books back to their original file in My Documents where they originally had been located. My personal photo templates were also now accessible again.  Then had to delete the 4 or 5 newly  created My Documents files that Booksmart created everytime I opened it up.   Personally I really like Booksmart and am very comfortable with it but this was such a strange thing that happened when it lost its PREFERENCE for My Documents folder and don't know why.   I am very disappointed that Blurb Support didn't come up with this solution - seemed very odd that my son (who knows nothing about Booksmart) figured it out and not Blurb support.  I had even sent over Screenshots of the different My Documents and everything Blurb Support asked for, to no avail. Seems so logical now in hindsight.  I'd be happy to help if you need it.

Nstuart, thanks for your post.  I am in a similar situation where BookWright crashed on me and when it was restarting, it decided to update itself and when it came back up, I lost weeks of updates on a magazine I was working on.  I did a search and found a whole bunch of backup files whose dates correspond to my latest updates, but I can't find the actual project in the file system and the project the application has loaded is the original one I started 3 weeks ago with virtually no update.  I am in the process of contacting Blurb support now, but am afraid I might get the same result you got with them a while back.  Any help you or your son can provide will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance. JJ, Sent my son the info on your problem but not sure if he can help.  My issue was with Booksmart and not BookWright.  Is this on a PC or a Mac?

Thanks Stuart for the quick reply; I am sure it won't surprise you that Blurb Customer NoService has not gotten back with me.  I am on a Mac and what makes matters worse is that I just started using a Mac only about 2 months ago; I have not gotten used to the file system yet.

I was afraid you were going to say Mac.  I'm not sure if he can help you with Mac issues.  I looked up the email address and name I sort of got help with from Blurb.  Stefanie, support@blurb.com.  If you get Vivian, hopefully she is up to speed now if she is still there.  I don't know if Stefanie is there either. 

See my original fix with the Change Library area of the bookfile and see if any of that info might help you.  I ended up having two My Documents folders in PC  and the Booksmart program was pointing to the wrong one.  Once he changed the setting back to the ORIGINAL My document folder which is under an advanced user setting, then he moved all of the files in that 2nd My Documents Folder back to the ORIGINAL MY Documents folder. Then we deleted the 2nd one when we made sure that everything was back in the original file, books, templates etc.  I know nothing about Macs, so can't help you.  I'll post if my son can help you with the Mac.

I did see your original fix; it helped me find my backups that are apparently generated periodically while working on the book, but I could not locate the actual project.  I am hoping they have a way for me to reproduce my project from the backups; otherwise what good are those backups.  Anyway, let me know if your son has any suggestions.  They started looking at my other thread this morning; hopefully they have a solution for me soon.  I did not get any of the people you mentioned above; I got Carolyn; hopefully she is up to par; if not, I'll ask her to refer the case to one of the other ladies you mentioned.
